FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Louisville, Ky. (August 7, 2020) — Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in order to ensure the safety of registrants and park visitors, The Parklands 5K Walk & Run will be held virtually. Participants can now complete their walk or run at their own time from Sunday, September 13 through Sunday, September 20.
The virtual format allows participants to enjoy a pre-marked scenic course in Beckley Creek Park, while offering plenty of space to spread out and follow social distancing practices. Cost to participate in the event is $30 per person. Each participant receives a T-shirt and race medal.
Funds raised go directly to The Parklands Fund, the annual campaign that raises money to support maintenance and operations of The Parklands of Floyds Fork. As a visitor-supported public park, The Parklands does not receive tax dollars for annual operations and relies on community support to continue providing free access to its nearly 4,000 acres, 365 days a year. It features over 50 miles of trails for hiking and biking—including a mountain bike park and a 19-mile, ADA-certified, multi-use paved trail that spans the length of the park—and 20 miles of paddling trail along Floyds Fork.
