UPDATE 1/23 10:30 AM
All trailheads in The Parklands are open! The Parklands grounds crew has been out this morning, removing snow from park roads, parking lots, and the Louisville Loop.
Even following snow removal, there could still be slick spots in areas on the roads and paved trails, so visitors should drive carefully and use caution when using the Louisville Loop. The Silo Lookout at Brown-Forman Silo Center in Turkey Run Park will remain closed for the day due to slippery steps.
There are plenty of activities to take advantage of in The Parkalands with the family when there is snow out like today! Our 3rd Annual Squirrel Celebration is from 10AM - 2PM at the PNC Achievement Center in Beckley Creek Park. The event includes squirrel games, a snowy "exsquirrelsion" with our trained interpretive rangers to spot squirrels in their native habitat and search for animal tracks, and making some truly nutty crafts. Second Chances Wildlife will host a program at 1 PM to show off a few creatures including a flying squirrel!
Snow has begun to fall in The Parklands! While there is no major accumulation yet, our grounds crew is being proactive, salting park roads and parking lots. Visitors should use caution in case areas have become slick. As snow continues to accumulate, our grounds crew will continue snow removal, prioritizing park roads, parking lots and heavily used paved paths.
Please keep an eye on this page throughout Friday and Saturday for updates on snow removal.
Snow days can be a beautiful time to visit The Parklands, but please be careful, and keep in mind certain areas may be closed. Watch for ice and slick areas, and NEVER walk on frozen creeks or lakes.
If you come to the park to enjoy sledding and outdoor winter recreation, please do not harm plantings, trees, and shrubs that lie under the blanket of snow. Snow machines and off-roading are not permitted in the park.
