Louisville, Ky. (November 14, 2018) —The Silo Center Bike Park in Turkey Run Park will be closed for the winter starting on Thursday, November 22. Closing the bike park during the coldest portion of the year helps protect the new trails from costly and irreparable damage that can occur during the freeze/thaw cycle.
Once temperatures begin to dip into freezing levels, the ground enters a continuous freeze/thaw cycle that can quickly turn into a muddy mess on sunny winter days. While the rest of the natural surface trails throughout The Parklands will remain open year-round, we ask that visitors practice trail etiquette no matter the weather. If there is mud on your heels or wheels, please turn around! Visitor cooperation will help preserve our trails for current and future generations.
For the latest updates and alerts, as well as more information on trails to explore during all four seasons, please visit www.theparklands.org.
The bike park will re-open to the public in the spring of 2019. All areas of The Parklands, including Silo Center Bike Park, are free and open to all thanks to donations from the community.
During the winter, check out the miles of hike/bike trails throughout our other areas open to the public year-round!
Being a donor-supported public park means we rely on donations, not tax dollars, for annual operations each year. Because of your generosity, we are able to maintain, program, and further develop this extraordinary public space without charging an entry fee. Together we work to enhance quality of life and help our community and economy grow in ways that are healthy, sustainable, and enjoyable for people of all ages.
