Green Earth Outdoors to Open Paddling Livery in

The Parklands of Floyds Fork

—Reservation system now open for rentals beginning May, 3, 2014—

(April 9, 2014) Louisville, Ky. —21st Century Parks, operator of The Parklands of Floyds Fork, Louisville’s newest public park system, is excited to announce a new partnership with Green Earth Outdoors that will allow for on-site canoe, kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals on Floyds Fork.

“Floyds Fork is the heart and soul of The Parklands. We’re excited to announce this new partnership with Green Earth Outdoors that will offer canoe and kayak paddling to the over 1.2 million people that live in the Louisville Metro area,” said Scott Martin, Parks Director.

“We are very excited about providing paddling rentals on Floyds Fork. Our mission as a local organization is to help all people get outside and enjoy the outdoors,” said Douglas Wagoner, Green Earth Outdoors, “so collaborating with The Parklands is a perfect fit.”

The Parklands has four open paddling accesses spanning more than 10 miles along Floyds Fork stream, with plans to open additional accesses in 2015 when the southern two of the four planned-parks open to the public. The Green Earth Outdoors livery service will operate near the North Beckley Paddling Access in Beckley Creek Park and offer three different day trips with a shuttle service. Day trips vary from one to seven hours depending on the length of the trip and water levels. Rentals will also be available by the hour for paddlers seeking a leisurely float in slow water pools in Floyds Fork or in William F. Miles Lakes. Most floats are self-guided but visitors may elect to add an instructor to their float for a guided paddle. Float prices range from $24- $71 depending on the craft and the length of the trip. On regular days of operation, a shuttle service will also be offered for a small fee to paddlers who bring their own craft.

“Visitors have been asking about paddling rentals since we opened our first amenity in June of 2011,” added Martin, “Recreational paddling is one of the fastest growing outdoor sports activities in the nation.  Thanks to the outdoor professionals at Green Earth Outdoors, Louisvillians now have a great chance to experience first-hand the beauty of Floyds Fork from human-powered watercraft.”

Registration is now open online with the first floats being scheduled for May 3, 2014. Rentals are available on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays beginning May 3rd to Memorial Day Weekend and again after Labor Day to the end of October. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, rentals are available every day except Tuesdays (subject to change based on demand). Floats are also available for school groups and corporate outings. To view rates and book a canoe, kayak or paddleboard, visit, or call (502) 565-6336.

“Our goal is to grow the offerings to best serve the needs of Parkland members, visitors and the entire outdoor community with trips, trainings and related programs,” added Wagoner, “We are honored to be a part of the legacy The Parklands will provide the Louisville community and entire region.”
