The Parklands of Floyds Fork Volunteer Event:

October 11 Paddling Cleanup of Floyds Fork

Louisville, KY. - 21st Century Parks staff and volunteers will be conducting a fall cleanup along Floyds Fork stream on Saturday, October 11, 2014. The event will begin at the PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP Pavilion in Beckley Creek Park with a welcome from 21st Century Parks, the nonprofit organization that operates The Parklands of Floyds Fork.. From there, volunteers will begin cleanup along Floyds Fork from the N. Beckley Paddling Access back to Creekside center. Volunteers are encouraged to bring canoes and kayaks to clean in and around the creek. Volunteers without boats will have an opportunity to pick up trash along the shoreline and in other areas of Beckley Creek Park as needed.

Gloves and garbage bags will be provided to volunteers at the event, as well as coffee and doughnuts. A limited of number of boats will be made available for clean-up volunteers at no charge by Green Earth Outdoors, as long as the water level is 35 cfs or higher. To request a Green Earth Outdoors canoe or kayak for this event, email rentals@greenearthoutdoors.com.

All participants are encouraged to register for this event, although it is not mandatory, and the event will occur in the case of rain or shine.  Cancellation will occur in the case of lightning or flooding. Life jackets are required for those who plan to participate by boat.  More information can be found at www.theparklands.org/FallCreekSweep or by calling 502-584-0350.

About The Parklands of Floyds Fork

The Parklands of Floyds Fork is a nearly 4,000-acre donor-supported public park system under development within the Floyds Fork watershed in eastern and southeastern Louisville. One of the largest and most ambitious metropolitan park projects in the nation, The Parklands is a dream realized by 21st Century Parks, a nonprofit organization established to create and preserve new unexcelled parks that serve as city-shaping infrastructure. The Parklands is now 35% open, currently operating and programming the first two of four parks in Eastern Jefferson County. The entire system is on schedule to be completed in 2015. 21st Century Parks is responsible for fundraising, land acquisition, construction, and long-term operations of the new park system. Community members may contribute to the annual fund by becoming a Parklands Member. Learn more at http://TheParklands.org/member.
