New Policies Ban Drones, Smoking at Playgrounds

When implementing new rules and policies, The Parklands takes into consideration the safety of visitors as well as the preservation of the land and wildlife that call The Parklands home. Beginning Wednesday, June 1, 2016, The Parklands is instating two policies to enhance the visitor experience.

Effective June 1, 2016, the use of tobacco products is no longer permitted in playground and sprayground areas. Areas affected by this policy include Marshall Playground and Sprayground in Beckley Creek Park, the playground in Pope Lick Park, and Cliffside Playground and Sprayground in Broad Run Park.

Effective June 1, 2016, drone use is prohibited in all areas of The Parklands unless in the service of official Parklands work or the written consent of the Park Director.

These policies were developed following months of careful consideration of best practices and visitor feedback. Our new policies on drones and smoking are not meant to alienate, but to help provide a world-class experience to all park visitors while preserving the peaceful environment our landscape offers wildlife.

We appreciate your cooperation and hope to see you in The Parklands soon! For a full list of “Things to Do” at The Parklands, click here.
