21st Century Parks Inc., the nonprofit organization overseeing the creation of a public parks system along the Floyds Fork watershed in eastern and southeastern Jefferson County, has been named a recipient of the Place Maker Award by the Foundation for Landscape Studies.
The award recognizes creativity in landscape design, stewardship, scholarship and preservation, according to a news release issued by 21st Century Parks.
Plans for the 4,000-acre parks system include the protection and reforestation of thousands of acres of land, the creation of multiple community parks and the development of 50 miles of multiuse recreational trails. The parks also will feature children’s playgrounds, a canoe trail, ball fields and other recreational amenities.
