Spring Creek Sweep, Part of the Mayor's Week of Service

Spring Creek Sweep, Part of the Mayor's Week of Service

In conjunction with the Mayors Give-A-Day initiative, Parklands staff and volunteers will conduct a spring cleanup along Floyds Fork stream. This is the third annual spring clean-up hosted by The Parklands as a part of the Mayor’s Week of Service and the first of two volunteer creek sweeps planned for 2015.

This event is open to the public and will begin at the PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP Pavilion in Beckley Creek Park with a welcome and coffee and doughnuts. From there, volunteers will begin cleanup along Floyds Fork in the Beckley Creek Park area.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring canoes and kayaks to clean in and around the creek. Those without boats will have an opportunity to pick up trash along the shoreline and in other areas of Beckley Creek Park as needed. Life jackets are required for those who plan to participate by boat.

Gloves and garbage bags, provided by Brightside, will be distributed to volunteers at the event. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes that can get muddy. Big-O-Tires has again agreed to recycle up to 250 tires recovered from the event. Any used tires found along the creek will be recycled by Big O Tires of Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

All participants are encouraged to register for this event, although it is not mandatory, and the event will occur in the case of rain or shine.  Cancellation will occur in the case of lightning or flooding.
