Make weekends in April special when you join the Louisville Astronomical Society for solar viewing on SUNdays in the Parklands!
Every SUNday in April (except Easter) LAS will be in The Parklands to show you how to view the sun safely as they observe Sol, our private star through specially filtered telescopes.
REMEMBER- Never look at the sun through binoculars or a telescope.
LAS members will be using special sun filters on their scopes and showing Parklands visitors sunspots and prominences on the sun that jump thousands of miles into the solar atmosphere. They will also be giving you facts on NASA’s Parker Solar Probe which is orbiting the sun on an extraordinary mission to study the 900,000 mile across star that gives us warmth and causes The Parklands to be green through photosynthesis.
Parklands Ambassador and NASA Solar System Ambassador Ken Alderson will have his meteorite collection at all events so that you can hold a 4.6 billion-year-old space rock in your hands.
WHAT: View the sun safely with the LAS.
TIME: 1-3 p.m.
Due to Easter, there is no viewing on Sunday, April 21.
