Name: Stephanie Blair
Title: Park Attendant
Team: North and South Operations
What is your role?
There definitely isn’t a brief description of my role! I open and/or close the park, and all of that requires a clean and tidy park. I assist patrons, the maintenance, garden and facility teams, as well as the rest of staff!
How does your team help keep The Parklands fun?
Every aspect of the attendant’s job requires us to follow and respect The Parklands motto of being safe, clean, fun and beautiful!
What are you most proud of in your work?
I am most proud of being a part of a good team. There isn’t any one of us that can get the job done without the rest of the team.
What inspires you to come to work every day?
Being a part of a good team inspires me. Also, passing out dog treats to my many four-legged friends.
Which trail would you recommend to visitors and why?
Before I recommend a trail, I find out what the visitors would like to experience, then look at their footwear! All the trails are unique. Creekside Paddling Access in Beckley Creek Park is a special little spot for children and adults. It’s nice for a picnic, reading a book and introducing children to a low water spot on the fork for a fun adventure.
Which “thing to do” at The Parklands is your favorite and why?
The entire park is my favorite! I focus on the Osage Orange Trail because I’m at Creekside Center a lot, and the PNC Achievement Center is a special place. Besides bringing them snakeskin, bones or fossils, I have copies of the scavenger hunt to go with the hike on the Osage Orange Trail. It’s great fun.
In your opinion, what makes The Parklands worthy of support?
Anything appealing is worthy of support. Most of the folks that live near The Parklands live in subdivisions, which sometimes isn’t a community. The Parklands provide a community of sorts while bringing people together.
How would you say “Thank You” to someone who donates to The Parklands, or who is thinking about donating?
Thank you for being a part of something special and worthwhile!
Being a donor-supported public park means we rely on donations, not tax dollars, for annual operations each year. Because of your generosity, we are able to maintain, program, and further develop this extraordinary public space without charging an entry fee. Together we work to enhance quality of life and help our community and economy grow in ways that are healthy, sustainable, and enjoyable for people of all ages.
