Hound Dog Press Produces New Member Perks Print

| The Parklands

As an artist and printmaker, I have always been inspired by the State Park and US travel posters that were created under the Works Progress Administration (WPA) between 1935-1945. The simple, yet beautiful, representations of our country’s landscape were captured perfectly by these artists. It was in this vein that I set out to “brand” Kentucky’s beautiful scenery and iconic locations with images of my own. This series of “Kentucky Wonder Prints” began with Natural Bridge, next Mammoth Cave, then Cumberland Falls, and Land Between the Lakes. After these 4 prints were produced, Hound Dog was commissioned to create a one-of-a-kind art print for The Parklands of Floyds Fork as a Member incentive.

“The Strand” was created as a pen and ink illustration, and then converted to polymer plate and letterpress printed, one color at a time, on our 1960 Vandercook SP15. This inspired location struck me instantly as the location to feature. I have personally kayaked along these banks, felt the cool stream flow through my fingers, and have been shaded by the tall trees growing here.  The seamless weaving of manmade bridges and paths meander and blend perfectly with the natural landscape of the park. I encourage everyone to take the time to hike, bike, paddle or drive through as much of The Parklands as you can. I look forward to seeing the trees grow larger and the seasonal blooms of the meadows for many years to come.
