It's Derby week, but it's also high time in The Parklands as families across Louisville are racing to our parks to enjoy some beautiful spring weather. And we’re ready for you with the Marshall Playground and Sprayground, Egg Lawn, camps at the PNC Achievement Center, and tons of other activities sure to keep you and yours actively engaged in the great outdoors.
A couple reminders before the really busy season hits us:
Parking on busy weekends can be tough. Please be courteous and park only in designated spots. If your favorite parking spot is full, continue around the road to find another spot and perhaps learn about a new park amenity in the process.
Be Park Smart – while we take great pride in the safety of The Parklands, we count on you to be a part of that. Don’t leave your purse, wallet, or other valuables in plain sight in your car. Put valuables in your trunk – or better yet, leave them at home.
The Louisville Loop can get quite busy at times so be aware of your surroundings and traffic. Remember, let folks know if you are passing and ALWAYS pass on the left. Courtesy goes along ways to making for a great park experience.
The water at the Sprayground is now running. It’s set up to run on a four-minute cycle. To turn it on, simply press the button found on the bollards at either end of the park.
Birding Hint of the Month – look for our migratory species now throughout the park – these include warblers, tanagers, orioles, and indigo buntings. The Loop is a great place to spot these guys – just slow down, take your time, and you’ll be amazed at the diversity of wildlife around.
For more information on what’s happening in the park, swing by the PNC Achievement Center and speak to one of our talented and knowledgeable interpreters who will point you on your way to an even better Parklands experience!
