There are very few naturally formed ponds in this region. The lakes and ponds you see in The Parklands are man-made, another example of the human shaping of the landscape. Though built as farm ponds, they now provide essential habitat for numerous species of fish, amphibians, waterfowl, insects, and other aquatic life. Boulder Pond in Turkey Run Park is an excellent location for fishing, picnics and wildlife watching. An ADA accessible pier makes fishing available to all.
Fishing is available at Boulder Pond year-round. Thanks to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Boulder Pond is periodically stocked with trout. A fishing license is required for anglers age 16 and older (for all residents and non-residents) and can be obtained at local sporting goods stores and online at the web address listed below. A trout permit is also required for trout fishermen.
